Morrighu leads the way, as is her custom, out of the temple. She is looking for more driders, but they do not see any. Following the directions from the guard at the library, they make their way around to the wizard’s tower. (more…)

One Night in Camp

She grins, “I’m glad we’re back. We need to talk to the Seer right away. And I can’t wait to take a bath.”

Valen looks at Nathyrra, “If Morrighu is to have a bath any time soon, we’ll have to arrange for quarters. Will you go find us quarters at the public house?” (more…)

The helm goes back on and she moves swiftly to the door. It’s locked but she kicks it in only to be confronted by more golems. Valen and Nathyrra move swiftly to her, but neither one can reach past her to engage the golems. (more…)

Valen blushes furiously and storms off.

Nathyrra kneels next to the paladin and puts a bandage over the cut, “You really must be more careful around Valen. The demon in him is drawn to blood and I suspect to you as well, since you are a paladin. You bleeding would be a double temptation. While I do not think he would do anything to harm you under normal circumstances, those were not normal circumstances. I saw him give himself over to the demon when he thought you were hurt. Just as your goddess empowers you, the demon in him does the same. He hates the demon part of himself but he would do almost anything to protect you. You must pay more attention to the color of his eyes and be wary when they are red. There, that should stop the bleeding. If we can find a healer in this forsaken place, you won’t even have a scar.” (more…)

She starts down the path back to Cavallas’ ship and soon they find that good to his word, he is waiting for them.

Cavallas greets her, “Welcome, paladin. Where is it that you wish to go? Back to camp or to the island of with the strange town?” (more…)

Imloth watches them and sees the intense look on Valen’s face. He runs toward Valen, who is now supporting a wobbly paladin on her feet, “Valen, what’s the matter?”

Valen growls, “That damned frog bit her and she didn’t know it was poisonous.” (more…)

Nathyrra takes the pack and disappears past the door to the women’s quarters, heading for Morrighu’s room.

Morrighu sits in the small tub scrubbing off the grime from the proving grounds and thinking about her outburst earlier. She sighs, glad that Valen was the only one to see her so. At least he didn’t seem to take her outburst to heart. (more…)

The Chronicles of Valen Ch. 03

Early the next morning Rizolvir delivers her items in person. He stops at the central hall and finds one of the acolytes, who runs to wake her.

Morrighu is awaked by a soft knock on her door, “Rizolvir is here to see you.”

Before she can even respond, all she hears is the sound of slippered feet padding away.

She tosses on a robe quickly and heads out to the central hall.

Rizolvir arches a brow at her state of undress. She shrugs at him, “I don’t have anything else to wear. This is even borrowed.” (more…)

The Chronicles of Valen Ch. 02

Valen naps lightly for a while but wakes so he starts singing softly to himself to pass the time. He’s humming part of the tune when he hears her speak for the first time.

Her voice is husky with sleep, “Who are you? Where am I? More importantly, where are my clothes?”

He chuckles, “So you finally decided to wake up. Nathyrra, get the Seer. It seems our guest is awake.”

Nathyrra leaps off the couch and runs to fetch the Seer, leaving the two of them alone.

She raises her head off the pillow and looks puzzled for a moment before she closes her eyes. She all but orders him, “Speak again.” (more…)

Prologue

An old and grizzled tiefling sits at the tavern table across from a young elf bard. The young bard sizes up the tiefling, thinking to himself that he doesn’t look like much. He is old and thin and seems too frail to have ever been involved in some of the great deeds he’s claimed to any who would listen. He’s unable to see anything that looks like a redoubtable warrior in the old tiefling but no one cares if the tale is true, only that it is a good tale. (more…)
