The insistent ringing of the wake up call came much too soon. Colin rolled over and hushed the noise by lifting then dropping the receiver. Shannon lifted her head from the pillow, her vision groggy from too little sleep.

“Morning lass.” Colin kissed her gently on the lips.

“Mmmm…does that mean all the fun is over?”

It took Colin 15 minutes to drive to the day spa. Ten of those he spent on the phone arranging for him to be alone with Shannon for the duration of the evening. His thoughts were whirling. He hadn’t obsessed over anyone for a long time…what was happening to him now? “Maybe it was that whack on the head,” he thought absently. Right now, he just wanted to be with Shannon.

Elaine, Shannon’s esthetician, finished her pedicure and assisted her in lying down in a comfortable position. She covered Shannon with a sheet and lowered the lights. Theo Kojak sighed in pleasure as he soaked up the heat of the sun whilst lying on the oversized towel on the soft white sand. A large parasol was alongside him, ready for when it was needed to provide shade and under it was a coolbox with an assortment of drink as well as food. Theo Kojak glanced at his watch and then at the door to his apartment. He knew his guest, his lover, would be arriving soon and the anticipation was building. Theo had gratefully showered away the grime of his day’s work as a Police Lieutenant in Manhattan South. The ship seemed full of people from the planet making repairs, some over due, to many of the ships systems. Rakel had been very helpful Gaheris thought as they walked through the corridor with her trying to convince him to make a speech on Terazed backing the referendum, but he still wasn’t too sure. “I have no clue, Ambassador, but if we don’t get someone in there NOW, they’re going to start ripping large chunks out of each other’s planets. You’re the closest person with enough rank and knowledge of the Reguls, so we’re sending the “Enterprise” there immediately. Meet with the heads of both factions and get them to renew the peace treaty before the end of next week.” The Director looked puzzled and frustrated. The Reguls had gone through a bloody and crippling (both in terms of lives lost and economic consequences) Civil War 50 years ago, but had renewed their peace treaty every ten years since. There had been no signs from anyone that things were anything other than normal, and the renewing of the peace treaty had been largely an excuse for parties and pomp for the last 30 years. Suddenly the two planets were claiming that the other had conspired against them, that there had been covert spying on technology, that people had been executed at the other’s hands, and on and on.
